Root Canal Treatment (Endodontics)

When a tooth’s blood or nerve supply becomes infected, root canal treatment is necessary to save the tooth. At Parade Dental Practice in Bridgwater, we are very much experienced in endodontics, and can assure you of a procedure that is pain free and problem free for the best possible results.

Treating infection decisively, before it’s allowed to spread

An infection in the pulp of a tooth, if left untreated, is going to spread through the tooth’s root canal system, eventually leading to an abscess and causing a great deal of pain in the process. In all likelihood, the tooth will end up having to be extracted, which is something that’s best avoided, if it can be helped.

Root canal treatment is performed under a local anaesthetic and is the process of removing the infection, clearing out any abscesses and preventing further infection from taking hold.

What does treatment involve?

First and foremost, you will be glad to hear that there is no pain involved, as a local anaesthetic is administered before treatment commences.

The procedure itself may take place over one or two visits, and will involve us removing the damaged nerve, draining any abscesses that may be present, cleaning and shaping the tooth and then putting a permanent filling in place.

How will my teeth look afterwards?

The appearance of your teeth should be unaffected, unlike older methods, which could darken the tooth. If any discoloration does occur over time, this can be remedied with a variety of treatments.
